At-home puppy training:

Basic training is importanPuppy training a stayt for all puppies. Individual puppy training sessions are useful for puppies who are receiving adequate socialisation elsewhere, for owners who can’t make classes and also for owners who feel they would benefit more from 1:1 attention.

At-home puppy training is tailored to your requirements and provides individual attention at a time and place convenient for you.

I can offer individual sessions, or an in-home puppy training course.  During this 4 week course, I will come to your home once a week to teach you and your pup basic training techniques, as well as advice on bringing up a well-mannered and behaviourally resilient puppy.

Puppy training is based upon the Life Skills model developed by experienced animal behaviourists at Lincoln University.  The Life Skills puppy training classes have been developed with an emphasis on preventing common behaviour problems and helping your dog to take responsibility for being well behaved. Ideally these skills are incorporated into daily life so time spent training your dog is reduced. This will of course take consistency and commitment from you as an owner, but over time it will become a natural way of living with your dog.

What your puppy will learn:

  • Sit
  • Down
  • Coming when called
  • Walking nicely on a lead
  • Being able to settle and amuse themselves appropriately
  • Having good manners around people and other dogs
  • Being comfortable being touched and groomed

I also offer a special Puppy Home Start session.  Puppy home-start visits are for new puppies and owners to help you start out on the right foot and develop a good relationship with your puppy.  In this 1.5 hour session I will visit you in your home and answer your questions about owning and raising your new puppy.  You will receive help and advice on toilet training, feeding routines, bed-time routines, Life Skills, teaching manners, interaction with children, play-biting and teething / chewing.  You will also receive advice on how to develop a good relationship with your puppy by understanding how he/she learns and sees the world around him/her.
